When I started my home renovation I initially planned to have a dedicated office and guest bedroom. Soon after starting the renovation we found the floor was uneven where the office was planned so we decided pivot and move around the layout and ultimately a home gym made more sense than an office. Flooring
When it came to the flooring, I wanted a black tile system with the speckled detailing similar to what is found at your typical gym. I also wanted to make sure the flooring didn’t look like puzzle pieces, similar to what you’d find at a child’s daycare. So we went with black flooring that seamlessly fit together by connecting underneath the flooring tiles so its kept level and weighted down.
Mirrors + Lighting
We went with 7ft mirrors to line the room, and included black channel wrap around the mirrors. We left roughly a foot of space between the floor and the mirrors to create depth within the room. When it came to lighting we went with an LED stripe light that sticks directly to the mirrors, where we have complete control over the colors, brightness, and various settings through an app.
Decor
Fox home, who I worked with on these renovations, had the great idea to use black and white photos of Marilyn Monroe and Mohammed Ali to give it a vintage look and to give a little workout motivation. We went with an off white backing to the photos to match the overall theme of the gym and to make the decor pop against the dark features.
Shoe Wall
I’ve actually had these shoe walls since 2020 and have been moving them around throughout the last few years. After finishing my closet renovations I realized I didn’t have enough room for all my shoes and decided to repurpose the shelves to create a sneaker wall in the gym. Plus it acts as another decor element.
